2016 Kansas Relays Day 2 Results
LAWRENCE, Kan.—Sophomore
Shanice Cannigan became the second Coyote to clock under a minute in the 400-meter hurdles, qualifying for the finals in the event at the 89th annual Kansas Relays inside Rock Chalk Park.
Cannigan posted the fastest time in the preliminaries, finishing the lap in 59.73 seconds. USD alumna Alexa Duling holds the school record of 57.40 seconds, a time she set in 2012 to qualify for the NCAA Championship and the Olympic Trials. Cannigan also qualified for the Kansas Relays 100 hurdle finals.
Other finals qualifiers include senior
Analisa Huschle in the 100 and 200 meters, sophomore
Brooke Ireland in the 400 meters and junior
Jay Cooper in the 400 hurdles. The women's 4x100-meter relay and the men's 4x400-meter relay each made tomorrow's finals as well.
Senior
Emily Grove was the top collegiate and second overall to lead South Dakota's pole vault crew. She cleared 13-1. Junior
Emily Brigham tied for third at the same height with three extra misses. Senior
Janelle Noga was sixth and freshman
Julia Junkroski was seventh with each clearing 11-9 ¾.
The women's 4x800-meter relay, consisting of freshman
Liz Bohn, freshman
Mallory Fine, senior
Kati Nelson and junior
Jessica Feldman, took third. The relay clocked 9:23.21 for the fifth-fastest time in USD program history.
Junior
Ashley Thompson took fifth with a triple jump of 39-6 ½.
The men's distance medley relay finished fifth with a time of 10:24.26. Four freshmen ran on the relay with
Nate Wendt taking the 1,200-meter leg,
Joe Reagan racing 400 meters,
Eldon Warner running 800 meters and
Jacob Simmons anchoring the 1,600-meter leg.
Sophomore
Ethan Fenchel threw the discus 165-3 on his first throw to place seventh overall. He was the fourth collegiate. Senior
Kyle McKelvey was 10th overall with a 162-11 mark.
The Coyotes resume competition at Rock Chalk Park tomorrow at 5 p.m.
