Day 2 Heat Sheets
VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota seniors
Emily Grove and
Kelsey Barrett cruised to titles on the first day of the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Lillibridge Track Complex.
Grove knocked out the competition after clearing 13 feet, 7 ¾ inches, but the four-time All-American went on to collect a new meet record at 14-2 ½. The height is also an outdoor personal best for Grove. She then took three shots at 14-10, a height that would have moved her to fourth in the nation and set an all-time personal best as Grove cleared 14-9 ½ indoors this year.
The Coyotes took home 18 points in the pole vault between five athletes. Junior
Emily Brigham was fourth at 13-3 ¾, redshirt-junior
Madison Mills was seventh, and senior
Janelle Noga and freshman
Julia Junkroski tied for eighth.
Barrett led the 10,000 meters from tape to tape, using surges near the end of the race to pull away from second and third place. Barrett crossed the line in 35:58.03.
The Coyotes gained 22 points in the event with the help of a trio of Coyotes finishing in order from fourth through sixth. Sophomore
Erin Wetzstein finished in 37:13.24, sophomore
Bailey Oettel in 37:29.63 and freshman
Megan Billington in 37:35.46.
Senior
Meghan Dennis sent the javelin flying a season-best 155-7 to finish runner-up in the event. The mark ranks 53rd nationally and is just shy of her school record 159-3. North Dakota State's Sierra Rosenau captured her third consecutive Summit crown. Dennis won the event in 2013.
Teammates junior
Amelia Miller and junior
Elizabeth Szymonski also scored in fifth and eighth place, respectively. Miller threw a personal best 144-1.
Senior
Mubarik Musa took home all-Summit League honors with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters, crossing the finish in 30:58.74. Sophomore
Brice Cowman clocked 31:50.05 for eighth.
Junior
Jet Moreland sent the javelin 189-4, seven feet further than his previous best. He placed sixth in the event.
