BROOKINGS, S.D.—South Dakota junior
Kenneth McMahan won the heptathlon to highlight the Coyotes in action Saturday, wrapping up the SDSU Holiday Open inside the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
McMahan won the two-day men's heptathlon competition with a personal best of 5,181 points. The score is less than 200 points shy of the school record set by
Corey Reid in 2017. In the competition, McMahan won the shot put (41-3 ¼) and took second in four events – the 60 meter dash (7.07 seconds), the high jump (6-8 ¾), the 60-meter hurdles (8.49) and the 1,000-meter run (2:51.96).
Fellow Coyote, freshman
Marshall Faurot, placed third with 4,869 points for the third-best score in program history.
The men's and women's discus throw was also contested on Saturday.

Ben Hammer won the men's indoor discus in 182-5 ¾. Sophomore
Jessie Sullivan was the second collegian and third overall with a throw of 160-11. Senior
Kino Dunkley finished behind him in the standings with a distance of 159-0 ¼.
Freshman
Lydia Knapp placed third in the women's discus with a best mark of 143-9 ¼.
The Coyotes resume action in the New Year with the Coyote pole vaulters competing at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada, on Jan. 17-18. The remainder of the squad will compete at the Bison Team Cup in Fargo, North Dakota, on Jan. 18.
