VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota distance runners
Mason Sindelar and
Ella Byers recorded personal records in winning their respective events on Friday afternoon to highlight the Coyotes in action at the USD Early Bird held at Lillibridge Track Complex.
Sindelar, a redshirt-sophomore from Pierce, Nebraska, outkicked the competition down the stretch and clocked a personal best 3:52.07 to win the men's 1,500 meters. The time ties him for ninth in USD program history.
Byers, a fifth-year senior from Chamberlain, South Dakota, captured the women's 5,000 meters in a personal best time of 17:23.02. It was her first time running the 5,000 meters outside of the conference meet since 2022. Fifth-year senior
Haley Miller took fourth in 18:08.68.
Sophomore
Quincy Warren won the men's hammer throw with a season best mark of 186-7 (56.88m).
Senior
Jacy Pulse took the tape in the women's 400-meter hurdles in 58.43 seconds. Junior
Averi Schmeichel finished runner-up in a season-best time of 1:00.27. Freshman
Hadley Cheatum clocked a personal best of 1:04.92 for fifth in the race.
Redshirting this spring season, senior
Lydia Knapp finished runner-up in the discus with a throw of 160-6 (48.92m). Fifth-year senior
Meredith Clark took third in the discus with a throw of 157-11 (48.15m).
Senior
Abbie Schmidt clocked a personal best 11:10.88 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing third in the race. Her time ranks ninth on USD's Coyote Top 10 charts. Junior
McKenna Herrmann took fifth in the race in 11:24.98.
On the men's side, sophomore
Carson Lauterbach finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:34.74.
Sophomore
Mikael Grace finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.63 seconds.
Freshman
Piercze Marshall took fifth in the 5,000 meters in 15:16.18.
South Dakota returns to action for day two of the USD Early Bird at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion.
