VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota captured 17 events Friday evening at the USD Tune-Up held at Lillibridge Track Complex and Gottsleben Field.
Another weekend at home led to another big jump from sophomore
Bennett Schwenn. Schwenn leaped a wind-legal personal record 25-3 ¼ (7.70m) to win the long jump. He improved his Summit lead in the event and ranks 42nd nationally. His mark ranks second in program history.
Junior
Danii Anglin cleared a new Summit-leading mark in the high jump with a height of 5-10 (1.78m). The winning height is her season best.
Redshirt-sophomore
Tristan Gray was victorious in the men's shot put competition with a throw of 56-6 ¾ (17.24m). His mark ranks second in the league this spring.
Redshirt-junior
Sara Reifenrath won the 200 meters with a new season best time of 23.44 seconds. She ranks second in the league with the time.
Senior
Erin Kinney, who leads the Summit in the event, blew the top off the women's 100-meter dash. She took first in 11.37 seconds, topping second place by nearly three-fourths of a second.
The Coyotes swept the men's and women's triple jump competitions. Junior
Jayden Green leaped 46-10 ¾ (14.29m) to win the men's triple jump. Junior
Lauren Meyer took first in the women's triple jump with a leap of 38-9 ½ (11.82m).
Wrapping up a long and busy day of throwing, senior
Meredith Clark won the women's shot put with a throw of 48-8 (14.83m).
Senior
Marshall Faurot won the men's pole vault with a clearance of 17-5 (5.31m).
Freshman
Hadley Cheatum captured the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.93.
The Coyotes swept the women's and men's 1,500-meter races. Senior
Ella Byers won the women's race in 4:37.09. Redshirt-sophomore
Mason Sindelar outkicked Nebraska's Gabe Nash in the final lap to win by four seconds, crossing the finish line in 3:50.81.
Senior
Madison Jochum took the tape in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:14.04.
Competing unattached,
Lydia Knapp swept the women's hammer throw and the women's discus. She launched the hammer 202-9 (61.81m) and the discus 164-6 (50.16m). Teammate Clark, who won the shot put, was the top attached athlete in both events. Clark launched the hammer 186-9 (56.94m) and the discus 154-8 (47.16m).
Also redshirting this spring,
Marleen Mülla won the women's pole vault with a make of 14-5 ¼ (4.40m). Senior
Jaidyn Garrett was the top attached athlete, finishing runner-up with a clearance of 13-8 ½ (4.18m).
South Dakota travels to St. Paul, Minnesota, for the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships held May 9-11.
