PREVIEW: Coyotes head to Mizzou for Dr. Rich McGuire Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the first time at the Division I level, South Dakota track and field heads to Columbia, Missouri for an indoor meet, taking on the competition at the Dr. Rich McGuire Invite hosted by Missouri on Friday and Saturday.
 
MEET INFORMATION
Friday's action in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse at Missouri starts at 9 a.m. with multi-events (men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon). Individual field events start with the men's weight throw at 10 a.m. and the women's pole vault at 10:30 a.m. Individual running events start at 2 p.m. with the women's 5,000-meters. Action is anticipated to conclude around 5 p.m.
 
Saturday's action starts at 11 a.m. with the resumption of the men's heptathlon events and the women's shot put. The first individual event on the track is the women's mile at 12:05 p.m. The meet is scheduled to wrap up around 4 p.m. Saturday.

SUMMIT LEAGUE PEAK PERFORMER
Anna Willis earned her second career Kwik Star Summit League Peak Performer honor of the season this week for her performance at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet. Willis cleared 14-1 ¼ at the meet, good for second at the meet, first in the Summit League and 10th in the NCAA.
 
Willis' honor is the second for a Coyote this season. The full list of Coyote honorees this season by week:

NATIONAL RANKINGS
The first national, regional, and position group rankings of the season were released Tuesday, with the South Dakota women ranking 55th in the first national ranking of the season.
 
In the Midwest Regional Ranking, the Coyote men are ranked 12th in the first regional ranking, the second highest ranked Summit League school in the region. The USD women are inside the top 15, ranking 13th. They are also the second highest ranked Summit League school. In the conference rankings, both South Dakota squad rank behind North Dakota State in the first ranking of the season.
 
In the event squad rankings, South Dakota's both South Dakota's men and women have three event groups inside the Top 25 in the NCAA, highlighted by the pole vault squads who are 2nd (women) and 6th (men) respectively.
 
South Dakota men's pole vault ranks sixth in the NCAA so far this season. The Coyote men's shot put squad ranks 14th in the NCAA and the 60-meter hurdle squad ranks 25th. USD's women's pole vault squad is 2nd in the NCAA this season. The triple jumpers are 15th and the 800-meter squad is 19th.
