Coyotes win six events on opening night of South Dakota Challenge

VERMILLION, S.D. ­— The South Dakota track and field team claimed a total of six events on the first night of the South Dakota Challenge at the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion.
 
TOP PERFORMERS
• South Dakota's women's steeplechase crew had a great night on the track with two personal bests and a season's best.
• Jade Ecoffey ran the third best time in school history to win the event in 10:37.98. Alexus Sindelar ran a season's best 10:49.81 to place third and Maci Steuber ran a personal best 10:56.92 that is 10th in the USD Top 10.
• In the men's 3000 steeple, Riley Ruhaak ran a personal best 9:28.06 to place first.
• South Dakota took the top three spots in the men's 1500-meters, led by Isaac Ochoa in 3:49.04. Mason Sindelar (3:51.36) and Natnael Kifle (3:52.53) rounded out the top three.
• Piercze Marshall ran a personal best in the 5000-meters of 14:47.61. Trevor Thomsen (15:02.61) and Levi Hill (15:07.97) rounded out the top three.
• Quincy Warren (186-2) and Delaney Smith (180-5) swept the hammer throw titles for the Yotes.
• Coyote alum Eerik Haamer won the men's pole vault at 17-7. Caelan Harland took second at 17-3 and Dylan Curtis set an outdoor personal best of 17-3 to place third.
