SIOUX FALLS, S.D. ­— Weather delays and race changes due to high temperatures didn't stop the Coyotes from succeeding Friday night at the Augustana Twilight as South Dakota claimed both individual and one team title at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls.
 
The races were originally scheduled for 8:45 and 9:15 p.m., but were pushed back to 9:45 (men's) and 10:15 (women's) Friday due to unsafe temperatures. The men's 4-mile was also shortened to a 5k, while the women still ran their scheduled 5k distance.
 
In the men's race, Isaac Ochoa and Natnael Kifle jumped out front from the start and didn't look back, taking two of the top three spots and leading the Coyotes to a second place finish. Ochoa won the men's individual crown with a time of 14:14.1, besting second place by over 11 seconds. Kifle took third in 14:30.6.
 
USD's scoring five all placed inside the top 12, with Piercze Marshall (9^th: 15:03.8), Trevor Thomsen (11^th: 15:07.7) and Tommy Hensley (12^th: 15:08.2) rounding out USD's top five. The Yotes totaled 36 points, good for second behind SDSU's 30.
 
In the women's race, Geneva Timmerman broke away from the field early and didn't look back, breaking the 17-minute barrier with a 16:59.0 to win by 11 seconds. Again, USD's top five were all in or around the top 10, as Drew Beason (5^th: 17:25.4), Alexus Sindelar (6^th: 17:32.2), Peyton Svehla (10^th: 17:42.9), and Jade Ecoffey (11^th: 17:47.2) round out the Coyote scoring five. USD's 33 points were enough to take the team title by 30 points over SDSU and 70 points over third place Winona State.
 
Next up, the Coyotes are headed south to Lincoln, Neb. For the Greeno/Dirksen Invite on Sept. 19.
