PREVIEW: South Dakota heads to Grand Forks for Summit League Championships

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – South Dakota track and field enters the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday with many athletes peaking at the right time, and are hoping to lift South Dakota to its 65th and 66th conference titles in Grand Forks.
 
MEET INFORMATION
The Summit League Championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Frederick "Fritz" D. Pollard Jr. Athletic Center.
 
Multi-event action starts at 9:30 a.m. Friday with the women's pentathlon 60-meter hurdles and at 10 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60-meters. Individual events Friday start at 3 p.m. with the women's weigh throw, men's pole vault, and women's long jump. Track events start with the first section of the 3,000-meters at 3:30 p.m.
 
Saturday's action begin with the resumption of the men's heptathlon at 9:30 a.m., beginning with the 60-meter hurdles. Individual field events begins at 11:30 with the women's triple jump and individual track events at 1 p.m. with the first section of the women's mile.
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS
South Dakota women's track and field remained in the Top 25, ranking 22nd in the latest national rankings. The Coyote women are the top ranked Summit League team.
 
Both the Coyote men and women rank inside the top 10 in the Midwest Region, both 10th in the latest regional rankings. Both squads are the lone Summit League squads to be in the top 10 in the region.
 
In the event squad rankings, South Dakota's both South Dakota has five event groups inside the Top 30 in the NCAA, highlighted by the pole vault squads who are 2nd (women) and 7th (men) respectively.
 
The Coyote men's shot put squad ranks 14th in the NCAA. The men's 60 hurdles are 27th in the country. USD's women's triple jumpers are 20th.
 
South Dakota is the top ranked Summit League school in five events: women's pole vault (2nd), men's pole vault (7th), women's triple jump (20th), women's 800m (47th), and women's mile (69th).
 
NCAA LEADERS
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 13-14. The Top 16 in every event qualify for the championships. Here are the Coyotes who are in the top 50 of their events in the NCAA so far this season.

SUMMIT LEAGUE PEAK PERFORMERS
Two Coyotes earned Summit League Peak Performer honors heading into conference. Marleen Mülla tied the Summit League Indoor record for most career weekly honors with nine, earning her third of the season after a career performance at Nebraska. Sophie Amin added her first career weekly honor after a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles put her in the top 100 in the NCAA in the event this season.
