2016 Dakota Realty Alumni Meet ResultsVERMILLION, S.D.—The South Dakota track and field teams won 16 events and posted the top collegiate finish in six more events as the Coyotes hosted the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet inside the DakotaDome Saturday.
Senior
Analisa Huschle had a trio of top-three finishes highlighted by a win in the 60-meter dash. Huschle clocked 7.71 seconds to take the 60 meters, .1 seconds ahead of freshman teammate
Karina Dufoe. Huschle was the top collegiate in the 200 meters at 25.28 seconds and placed third in the long jump.
2015 NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier redshirt-junior
Hunter Wilkes kicked off the season with a win in the pole vault, clearing 13-5 ¾. The Coyotes swept the event with junior
Emily Brigham and redshirt-junior
Madison Mills taking second and third.
Sophomore
Shanice Cannigan missed a personal best by .02 in winning the 60-meter hurdles (8.96). Junior
Ashley Thompson finished runner-up in 9.06.
Sophomore
Brooke Ireland captured the 400 meters in 57.88 seconds. Ireland ran another 400 to lead off the winning 4x400-meter relay. Ireland, senior
Kati Nelson, Huschle, and Cannigan captured the relay in 4:00.14.
The Coyote distance runners nearly swept the podium in the 800 meters, one mile run, and 3,000 meters. Senior
Katie Wetzstein won titles in both the mile (4:57.31) and the 3,000 meters (9:59.50). Junior
Nicole Schmidt won the 800 meters in 2:20.99 and finished runner-up to Wetzstein in the mile. Senior
Kelsey Barrett finished runner-up in the 3,000 meters with sophomore
Bailey Oettel in third. Freshman
Liz Bohn took third in the 800 meters and sophomore
Lindsay Joyce was third in the mile.
Thompson grabbed a title in the triple jump with a bounding leap of 39-3 ¼. Sophomore
Colette Christensen finished runner-up.
In the throws, senior
Kayla Johnson and junior
Danielle Waldner placed as the top collegiate in the weight throw and shot put, respectively. Johnson tossed 57-5 ½ and Waldner threw 48-10 ¼.
Junior
Mach Dojiok and senior
Mubarik Musa recorded a photo-finish in the one mile run. Dojiok won in 4:19.72 with Musa .08 seconds behind. Dojiok also finished runner-up in the 800 meters.
Musa led a trio of Coyotes to top spots in the 3,000 meters as Musa clocked 8:58.47 for the win. Freshman
Pierce Libbey and sophomore
Brice Cowman took second and third, respectively.
Sophomore
Gawain Williams took the 60-meter dash title in 6.86 seconds. Junior
Luke Worden placed third. Freshman
Jovane Parkinson finished runner-up in the 200 meters.
In his first collegiate race, freshman
Mario Magana captured the 400 meters in 51.13 seconds. Sophomore
Alex Williams was runner-up.
Magana teamed with three other freshmen,
Brett Prenger,
Alex Borchers, and
Brennan Schmidt, to win the 4x400-meter relay in 3:28.94.
Junior
Tyler Frank won the high jump after clearing 6-8 ¾.
Senior
Teivaskie Lewin recorded the fastest hurdle time of the day, 8.12 seconds, in the preliminaries. Junior
Jay Cooper won the 60-meter hurdle finals in 8.43 seconds. Freshman
Hunter Leighton took second.
The Coyote men also had the top collegiate finish in three field events. Senior
Peter Chapman took runner-up based on attempts in the pole vault by clearing 16-2 ¾. Senior
Connor Fitzsimmons placed third in the long jump with a leap of 21-7 ½. Junior
Dustin Valind was third in the shot put with a mark of 50-4 ¾.
Out of indoor eligibility, fifth-year seniors
Jeff O'Connell and
Kyle McKelvey won the long jump and the shot put, respectively. O'Connell jumped 22-7 ¾. McKelvey threw 59-10 ½.
Assistant track and field coach and three-time Olympian
A.G. Kruger won the men's weight throw, launching the weight 73-0 ¾. Coyote volunteer coach
Neeia Cooperwood captured titles in the 200 meters (25.13) and the long jump (18-5 ¼). Recent Coyote alum and volunteer coach
Cody Snyder finished second behind McKelvey in the shot put with a toss of 51-11 ¼.
The Coyotes compete at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational in Brookings, S.D., next Saturday.
