Day 2 Start ListsFORT WAYNE, Ind.—Two Summit League champions, sophomore
Shanice Cannigan and senior
Teivaskie Lewin, highlighted the first day of the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships inside the IPFW Athletics Center Fieldhouse.
Cannigan broke her own school record in the pentathlon after compiling 3,890 points. She set personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles (8.77 seconds), shot put (32-10 ¼) and long jump (18-6). Cannigan also won the high jump (5-7) and placed third in the 800 meters (2:21.35). In the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries, Cannigan again bettered her personal best with a time of 8.72 seconds. She's .01 seconds away from the school record in the event.
Lewin jumped 24-0 ¼ to defend his long jump title. It was the fourth Summit League indoor title of Lewin's career. Lewin also qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals with the top preliminary time of 7.96 seconds. Lewin and Oral Roberts' Israel Nelson showdown in the finals at 1:30 p.m. (CT) tomorrow. The pair are both ranked in the top-16 of NCAA Division I.
Senior
Analisa Huschle wrapped up the meet with a runner-up finish in the long jump at 19-2 ½ to earn all-league honors. Earlier in the day, she qualified for Saturday's final with season bests in the 60 meters (7.67) and 200 meters (24.93). Junior teammate
Emily Brigham placed fourth in the long jump at 18-4 ½.
Senior
Peter Chapman tied for second in the pole vault after clearing 16-6 for all-league honors. Classmate
Erik Jorgensen cleared 16-0 for fifth.
With North Dakota State's Erin Teschuk chasing an NCAA qualifying time in the women's 3,000 meters, the race took off to a quick start. Senior
Katie Wetzstein used a late surge to finish runner-up in 9:45.34. Senior
Kelsey Barrett ran a season best 9:50.78 to place eighth.
Senior
Mubarik Musa earned all-Summit status with a third-place finish in the men's 3,000 meters. Musa clocked a career best 8:26.69, which moves him to fifth on the program's all-time charts.
The second time this season, junior
Danielle Waldner launched the weight throw a school record 59-5 ½. Waldner placed fourth in the event.
Redshirt-freshman
Ethan Fenchel took seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 54-2 ¾.
Senior
Connor Fitzsimmons also placed in the long jump, taking eighth in 22-0 ¼.
The distance medley relays closed out the track competition of the evening. The Coyote women, consisting of freshman

Lindsay Joyce, earned all-league honors in third with a time of 11:58.25.
Four freshman,

Nate Wendt, ran on the men's relay with finished fourth in 10:27.50.
The men's heptathlon completed four of seven events on the first day. Freshman
Hunter Leighton is currently sitting in sixth place and sophomore
Garrett Anderson is ninth. Anderson opened the competition by winning the 60 meters in 7.27 seconds. Leighton captured the top mark in the high jump by clearing 6-4 ¼.
The Coyotes qualified for finals in nine men's events and nine women's events.
Sophomore
Gawain Williams qualified in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. He will be joined in the 60 meter finals by juniors
Luke Worden and
Jack Thony. Freshman
Mario Magana and redshirt-sophomore
Alex Williams qualified in the 400 meters. Redshirt-junior
Mach Dojiok posted the top seed time in the 800 meters. Lewin is joined in the 60-meter hurdles by junior

Karina Dufoe will tag along with Huschle in the 60 meter and 200 meter finals. Sophomore
Brooke Ireland reached the 400 finals. Wetzstein and junior
Nicole Schmidt both qualified for the 800 finals. Cannigan is joined in the 60-meter hurdle finals by junior
Ashley Thompson.
