Two meet record, four event titles for South Dakota on day one of Summit League Championships

02.27.2026

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – South Dakota track and field set two meet records and won four events on the first day of the Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships in Grand Forks, N.D. Friday. One school record was also broken.

TOP PERFORMERS
• Alexus Sindelar was named the Women's Indoor Track and Field Scholar of the Championship Friday morning.
• Rylie Hansen had a standout day in the women's long jump, taking over the lead with a personal best 19-11 (6.07m) on her final jump to win the event. She is now 3rd in USD indoor history in the event.
• South Dakota's first meet record of the day came in the 800-meter prelims as Ellie Thomas ran 2:07.93 to move into second in USD indoor history.
• Thomas was one of six Yotes to advance to the women's and men's 800-meter finals. On the women's side, Thomas (1. 2:07.93), Calia Chaney (2. 2:09.03), and Berkeley Engelland (4. 2:11.17) each advanced. For the men, Andrew Atwood (2. 1:51.84), Mason Sindelar (3. 1:51.98), and Tommy Hensley (8. 1:52.66) moved on.
• South Dakota's second meet record came in the distance medley relay for the men, the final event on the track Friday. The team of Tommy Hensley, Braxton Smith, Andrew Atwood, and Natnael Kifle ran a 9:53.49 to set the meet record and take gold.
• The women's DMR team of Jade Ecoffey, Claudia Werner, Berkeley Engelland, and Alexus Sindelar broke the school record in the event and placed second at the meet. Their time of 11:32.90 beat out the time set earlier this season by over half a second.

• The Coyote men got their first event win in the pole vault, with freshman Caelan Harland taking the top spot on the podium in 17-3 ½ (5.27m). Teammate Dylan Curtis cleared the same bar to place fourth in the event, but the PR for Curtis moves him to ninth on the USD indoor top 10. USD totaled 22 points in the pole vault.
• In multis, Bre Dunn's personal best of 3573 points placed her fifth in the pentathlon Friday, and places her 6th on the USD indoor top 10 in the event.
• South Dakota's four combined event wins on day one lead the way for most event wins by one school at this year's championships so far.
