LAWRENCE, Kan. - Senior Jasmine Mosley set a school record in the shot put at the Kansas Relays and the women's 4x100 relay had a strong showing at the Mt. SAC Relays to highlight the day of competition for the South Dakota track and field teams Friday. The Coyotes have groups of athletes competing at both meets.

Competing at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, Kan., Mosley (Bellevue, Neb.) fired a shot-put throw of 50-3 1/2 - beating the school record by more than a foot. The throw, which placed her fourth against stout competition, was also a personal best.

At the famed Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., the Coyotes' 4x100 women's relay was a strong third at 46.49, just .57 seconds away from the school record. That consisted of junior Alexa Duling (Gregory, S.D.), senior Emma Ladwig (Gayville, S.D.), freshman Analisa Huschle (Bagley, Minn.) and junior Ashley Sveum (Eau Claire, Wis.).

Freshman Emily Grove (Pontiac, Ill.) continued her strong freshman season in the pole vault, clearing a height of 13-7 1/4, just two inches away from a personal best. Junior Megan Meyer (Bismarck, N.D.) also had a good showing in the event, taking fourth in the Women's Pole Vault C with a height of 12-5 1/2.

Duling had a good run in the 400-meter hurdles, taking 14th at 1:00.58 - ahead of runners from Iowa State, Washington State, Arizona and Utah. That time was less than a second away from the school record. She also ran a time of 14.37 in the 100-meter hurdles, just .17 seconds away from a personal best.

Huschle ran a personal-best of 12.10 in the 100-meter dash, taking 34th in the event, while Ladwig ran a time of 2:11.86 in the women's 800 meters.

Junior Kyle Ballew (West Hills, Calif.) was 11th in the Men's Pole Vault A 16-4 3/4, while junior Casey Shade (Hartford, S.D.) was 32nd in the men's 800 meters at 1:50.77.

At the Kansas Relays, in addition to Mosley's record-setting performance, the Coyote men's 4x1,600 relay was second at 17:36. That consisted of junior Ethan Marquardt (Albert Lea, Minn.) , sophomore Jeff Mettler (Eureka, S.D.), sophomore Travis Brenner (Yankton, S.D.) and junior Benson Langat (Kapsabet, Kenya).

The Coyotes' women's 4x1,600 relay was third at 21:03.66. That consisted of sophomore Ashleigh Giese (Marshall, Wis.), junior Carol Miller (Mead, Neb.), junior Jessica Brandli (Rapid City, S.D.) and sophomore Britni Waller (Lincoln, Neb.).

Sophomore Kate Wellensiek (Cook, Neb.) had an excellent showing in the women's javelin, firing a personal-best throw of 148-2 to finish fifth. That mark shattered her previous personal-best by nearly 12 feet. Junior Kelsey Robish (Huron, S.D.) was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at season-best 11:44.79.

Freshman Kyle McKelvey (Beresford, S.D.) was sixth in the men's shot put at 55-11. South Dakota's 4,400 relay was fifth.
