A two-sport standout, Bob Jennings, excelled on the football field and in track and field. He ranks as one of the top lineman in USD football history, capping his career by earning Little All-American honors by the Associated Press in 1952. Jennings, nicknamed "Hindu" by his teammates was a three-year starting tackle for the Coyotes and was instrumental in guiding USD to the 1951 North Central Conference football title when USD lost its first game of the season before winning seven straight games including all six of its North Central Conference games. Jennings, who prepped at Bridgewater, SD, earned first team all-North Central Conference honors in both 1951 and 1952. As if football activities weren't enough, Jennings also captured the javelin at both the 1951 (175-8 1/2) and 1952 (175-9) North Central Conference track meets. Following graduation from USD, Jennings served 21 years in the United States Army, retiring in 1974 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
