An experienced collegiate athletic administrator and first-rate program builder, Dr. Carl Miller served as athletic director at USD for five years (1971-76) and was the person chiefly responsible for proposing that the Dakota Dome be built on campus. During his tenure as athletic director, he also saw both Coyote basketball and football teams advance to the NCAA Regional playoffs. Miller then served eight years as athletic director at the University of North Dakota before becoming athletic director at the University of the Pacific in June 1984. Miller served as first vice president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 1987.
