Jake Schlicht is regarded as one of the best track and field performers in school history. Schlicht helped lead the Coyotes to NCC outdoor titles in 1963 and 1965. Schlicht was a two-time all-conference champion in the mile, running a 4:25.8 in 1963 and 4:23.9 in 1964. Schlicht was a member of school record-setting relays in two-mile and sprint medley relay. From 1971 to 1978, Schlicht taught and coached in Yankton where he led the Bucks to five ESD track titles and four USD cross-country championships. Named the South Dakota Track Coach of the Year in 1973, Schlicht was voted into the Howard Wood Relays Hall of Fame in 1991.
