Maynard Ingalls, who served as co-captain of the 1938-39 North Central Conference championship basketball team, was generally regarded as one of the school's best all-around basketball players. Originally of Woonsocket, he earned all-conference honors during that championship season and along with his scoring ability was also a superb ball handler and passer. He led USD in scoring three straight seasons, setting a school record with 160 points during the 1936-37 season. He scored 138 points the next year, and reset the school record with 179 points in 1938-39, a mark that stood for six seasons. Ingalls also lettered in football and track. Later, he played for the Oklahoma Indians professional baseball team and became property of the Chicago White Sox. He also played professional basketball with teams such as the Chicago Bruins, and a team, which became the Minneapolis Lakers. Later, he went through flight school and became a pilot for the U.S. Air Force and was instructor pilot at Gowan Field in Boise, Idaho. Following military service, he spent 17 years as a radio and television announcer. For five years, he did the radio color for Boise State University. He also spent time in the real estate business.
