Coyote Sports Hall of Fame
Gloria (Suntken) Harrell, a native of Belmond, Iowa, was a two-sport star, excelling in basketball and softball for the Coyotes from 1977-81. She was a three-time team captain and the first freshman to score 400 points in a season when she did it for the 1977 Coyotes basketball team. She finished her career in 1981 as USD's career scoring leader with 1,212 points along with ranking first in assists (246) and second in rebounds (662). Twice (1979-80, 1980-81), she led USD in steals and assists. A player, who set 13 school records, Harrell played and started in all of her 107 career games as a Coyote. As a standout softball player from 1978-81, Harrell owns the school record for the highest batting average, hitting .448 during the 1980 season. When she left USD, she held the school record for hits (128), runs scored (96), batting average (.347), triples (6), and stolen bases (38).
