George DeKlotz was a standout athlete in the early 1920s and later enjoyed success as a coach. A 10-time letter winner in football, basketball and track at USD during the early 1920s. DeKlotz also served a three-year term as Coyote basketball coach (1949-52) in addition to guiding prep squads at Vermillion and Huron High Schools. At USD, he had a 27-41 (.377) overall record including a record of 15-21 (.416) in the NCC. He led his Huron teams to a pair of state cage titles and a similar number of grid crowns. "Deke" moved to California after stepping down at USD in 1952 and served as a coach and athletic director at Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek until his retirement in 1970.
