Ronnie Brown was a scatback and standout defensive back for the Coyote football team from 1947 through 1950 while playing for head coach Harry Gamage, USD's all-time wins leader. Brown, just 5'6 and 150 pounds, was one of the best backs in the North Central Conference. Brown was a graduate assistant for the Coyotes in 1955 and served as an assistant coach at Vermillion High for former USD great, Steve Adkins, in 1956. Brown later became head football coach at Vermillion High School (1957-61) before serving as an assistant coach at USD for head coach Bob Burns. He left USD in 1965 to take over as head coach for Vermillion High (1966-74). Brown had just one losing season (his first year) at Vermillion. He has served as athletics director since 1966 at Vermillion.
