The Henry Heider Coyote Sports Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 1972 and now has 349 members. A total of 21 teams have been inducted into the Hall of Champions. [Through the Class of 2025]

New for the Class of 2026, the South Dakota Hall of Fame committee takes new rules and consideration into the selection process of each year's induction class. The committee is held to a 6-1-1 format. No more than six individual athletes, one team, and one special contributor can be inducted each year but the 6-1-1 is not a requirement each year (can be less than six athletes or have no team/special contributor).
